Dear Betty,

Maya Angelou said “The first time someone shows you who they are, believe them.” Sharing yourself in every giving action is not easy for most, but for you Betty, it seems it is a way of life.

In November, 2007, the Finance Department strengthened their expertly, talented, caring team when you joined the SPIN family. As a skilled and competent Accounts Payable Bookkeeper, you began sharing and spreading your gifts and talents with all of us as you demonstrated your immediate commitment to SPIN’s mission.  Your “fan club” and those that have the fortune of knowing and working with you know and witness that better yet, you live SPIN’s four Pillars each and every day.

The words of your supervisors, Cheryl Kirby and Terri Schultz, from their nomination letter, are so important and deserve to be the credo of your Employee of the Month selection. Recognizing your demonstrated excellence within each Pillar can’t be finer.  So here goes.

People First:   Betty is always kind, friendly and respectful when interacting with the individuals we support. Part of Betty’s responsibility is to insure that mailroom functions run smoothly. Five individuals, Adam, Dexter, Kenny, Hampton and Geoffrey work closely with Betty each day gathering, stamping and delivering mail to all of SPIN buildings. Betty has developed positive, trusting but expective relationships with all of the mailroom staff and they look forward to seeing and working with her.

Professionalism:       Betty exhibits professionalism in her position in Accounts Payable. For example, she interacts daily with Residential Management when preparing and adjusting gift card orders, adding new houses in advance and taking into consideration individuals moving in or leaving a home. Betty effectively communicates information and collaborates with team members.  She does this with the utmost professionalism.

Performance Excellence:       In addition to keeping the mail running on time, a few of Betty’s other responsibilities include house pouches, travel reimbursements and the utility invoices for 87 homes and 7 offices. Gas, electric, water, phone and cable must be reviewed, processed and submitted for payment each month. Betty has set a high standard in this area of job performance by taking no short cuts insuring accuracy to this high volume of paperwork.

Productivity:      Most of Betty’s responsibilities are extremely time sensitive. House pouches need to be reconciled before the current pouch can be filled and distributed. Utilities must be paid on time to avoid finance and late fees and of course everyone likes to receive their travel reimbursements in a timely fashion. Betty’s efficiency and determination make all of this possible.

As was stated, your nomination for Employee of the month is long overdue. Your many acts of kindness as well as your diligence in all that you do is recognized and appreciated by all.

Betty, on behalf of the SPIN Corporate Board, SPIN Managers, your fellow colleagues, the people we support and their families, we are so very proud of you on this most deserving Employee of the Month Award for December, 2012.  As Jerry McGuire said “You had us at hello”.

With Appreciation and Congratulations,

Judith R. Dotzman
Executive Director
