Charlet Foster
Mar 1, 2009
Dear Charlet,
You have served SPIN, Inc.'s mission for almost 10 years now and
you have clearly mastered the art of "support". As a job coach, we
saw your ability to teach and fade successfully with people working
in competitive employment so that they had just the right amount of
support to be successful on the job. Now you apply that same skill
in your role as Home Life Coordinator for the "Ladies of Avon".
Kathy, Mary and Helen are so fortunate to have you as their friend
and supporter.
Peg Capasso, in her nomination letter gives wonderful examples of
the ways you have helped Mary grow toward independence. She
says,
"Charlet is a risk taker and will often provide opportunities for
the ladies to be as independent as possible by stepping back and
letting things happen naturally. A lot of us might want to
intervene and help, but in doing so, we prevent some amazing things
to happen. Charlet was recently seen at a nearby convenience store
where she was holding the door for Mary to enter the store. And
then, something happened that seldom happens: Mary went into the
store alone to make her purchases while Charlet observed her from a
distance. In this way, Charlet provided the security that Mary may
or may not have needed, but she also provided her with another
opportunity to make her own choices and be more independent. How
many of us would have insisted on going into the store with Mary
and "helping" her. She is currently supporting Mary in her choice
to go back to school. Charlet has supported Mary in finding classes
to suit her needs and her schedule. This is very important to Mary,
who has taken control of her own life, partially because Charlet
has been there, encouraging her and supporting her in the
process."
Kathy and Helen love when you are around also. Kathy says that you
are her "buddy" and Helen smiles from ear to ear when your name
comes up. They know that when you are working, they will be doing
something that they enjoy such as attending Norcom or going for
coffee or shopping! It is a very rare occasion that the ladies are
home, but when they are, it is a family atmosphere due to your love
and support.
As the Home Life Coordinator for Avon you also demonstrate your
very effective leadership skills. You keep files and reports
organized, coordinate every appointment for the ladies, communicate
with and train substitutes and new staff and make sure that Kathy,
Mary and Helen have a house that is their home.
So, it is my pleasure to honor you as Employee of the Month and to
thank you on behalf of the Board of Directors, your fellow
employees and the "Ladies of Avon" for the love you bring to them
and all of us everyday. You have a heart of gold, a smile to
brighten the day and abundant joy, all of which you share so
willingly.
Sincerely,
Trina Losinno
Executive Director
