Dear Erica,

Ralph Marston said that “Excellence is not a skill, it's an attitude”. And this kind of attitude not only creates a positive work environment but it builds trusting relationships that are at the core of the quality of SPIN’s services and supports. There is no better time than during the holidays to pause, reflect, recognize and appreciate our top performers and so it is such a perfect opportunity to give this great big Employee of the Month shout out   to Erica Jacobs for her true demonstration of SPIN’s Pillars in her actions and interactions!

Erica, eight years ago you were welcomed to SPIN as a valued substitute employee and supported so many people with your caring support skills. However, in 2014, the Murray team was so fortunate when you found a “home” supporting Joe, Nicky and Casimer! Most recently, you were promoted to the Lead Direct Support Professional and your positive leadership has been clearly witnessed and appreciated by your colleagues, managers, and families.

Richard Brown, your supervisor and nominator said in his nomination letter “Erica’s knowledge of the men and the home are unequaled. It is through her effective communication that all members of the team, both inside and outside the home are kept informed.  Whether it is during an ISP Meeting, SIS Assessments or a routine medical appointment, Erica can be counted on to provide clear, thorough and pertinent information to all team members. Of course, I always try to schedule these meetings when Erica is available but Erica makes herself available as she goes above and beyond her job accountabilities to assure the health, safety and happiness of Joe, Nicky and Casimir”

As a high performing Lead DSP, you consistently demonstrate SPIN’s four Pillars in your communication and action.  You deeply reflect respect for everyone’s uniqueness and support people to seek opportunities and reach their highest potential as you believe in the power of possibility.  And, most importantly, you deliver exceptional results!

Erica, you are a great resource to your team mates. Just recently, I was told that a new employee joined the Murray team and it was her first day supporting Joe, Nicky and Casimer by herself. Needless to say, she was a little overwhelmed. She reached out to you as you always let the team know that they can reach out to her for help. This new employee did just that and you walked her through some challenges over the phone. Additionally, you came over to the home on our own time to make sure everyone was okay (and of course you made sure that Richard was informed to provide the support and supervision needed). Erica, your caring commitment shows in the consistency of your quality supports on an everyday basis.

Erica, your calm and pleasant qualities offer a positive environment that promotes strong and effective relationships with everyone.  In addition, you excel in creativity and problem solving, even during the most challenging of times.  Joe, Nicky and Casimir are benefitting from your proactive skills as you support them to have the best possible health.  The Murray Team respects you and appreciates your support and leadership.

So, on behalf of the SPIN Corporate Board, SPIN Management Team your fellow colleagues, and most importantly, Joe. Nicky and Casimir and their families, it is my privilege and honor to recognize you as a most deserving selection of December, 2015 Employee of the Month.

Erica, as we get ready to ring in the new year of 2016, we thank you for creating and supporting Joe, Nicky and Casimir to live a life of possibilities by making a difference through your Excellence that is a shining example of not only skill but the kind of attitude that motivates us all to raise the bar.  Here’s to a happy, healthy 2016!
