Jean Bell

Jean Bell

Oct 31, 2011

Dear Jean,

James Kent said that "Nothing is so potent as the silent influence of a good example”.  In other words, the silent leader is a powerful resource to everyone.  Three years ago, you were working for EMAN and when you heard that SPIN was acquiring the organization, your skepticism got the best of you.  Although you were ready for a challenging opportunity, you wanted to assess the level of integrity of this organization.  The transformation began on July 1, 2009 and, within no time at all, you engaged your belief and trust in SPIN and as they say, “the rest is history”!  It was easy to see that you were a right fit for SPIN.

You supported John and Tom when they lived at 114 Willow Grove and was an integral part of the planning and implementation of their move to Morrow Drive in Bensalem.  Knowing that the move was a wonderful opportunity for the men to live closer to their family, you chose to stay with the men even though it doubled your commute from your home.  Jean, your commitment to the men is exemplary and you demonstrate SPIN’s People First Pillar through your care and concern while always advocating for the each of the men.  A perfect example was the determined advocating that you provided for the men to get the resource of an accessible wheelchair van for their community activities.  The previous van did not meet the needs of the men and you coordinated efforts with your supervisor, Amelia Scell, to achieve this outcome.

Amelia wrote in her nomination letter that “Jean is hardworking, dedicated and committed to the individuals she supports.  She goes above and beyond to ensure their needs are met.”   Through your quiet yet strong leadership, you collaborate with the Morrow support team and often take the lead to develop opportunities for John and Tom.  Most recently, you planned and supported the men on vacation to upstate New York where you all relaxed and enjoyed your travel through the beautiful environment.

In addition, you support the men’s strong relationship with their family as you assure that John and Tom communicate often with their family.  They are relevant members of their community and your quiet yet confident and powerful leadership skills have been a clear indicator of their success.

On behalf of the SPIN Corporate Board, your colleagues, and most importantly, John and Tom, we recognize and appreciate your exemplary work as October’s Employee of the Month. Your actions speak volumes and we thank you.

Sincerely,

Judith R. Dotzman
Executive Director
