John Haughney

John Haughney

Jun 26, 2012

Dear John,

Webster says that Courage is “the quality of mind and spirit that enables a person to face challenges with bravery”.  Right here at the Norcom Community Center we have and know a genuine example.  John Haughney knows what courage is all about and SPIN is fortunate that three years ago he decided to share his gifts and talents with all of us.  This courage has enabled him to put himself out there.  Just ask the attendees of SPIN’s most recent Talent Show as he brought the house down in his performance of the Lion in the Wizard of Oz – Whatever it takes John, right?

John, you know since you have been young that SPIN’s first and foundational Pillar is People First and you are an outstanding example of someone who makes people feel important, someone who makes people feel like they matter, and someone who shows people how much you believe in them.  Fran and the NCC team certainly understand this idea of investing in others as you are taking risks and trying new activities with him therefore building Fran’s trust in you.

First impressions are everything and you are often the first Ambassador to the NCC’s new members.  Your friendly personality not only welcomes members but you engage them into a commitment to lead a healthier lifestyle.  You spend time with people and demonstrate your interest in them as well as motivate them to reach higher and higher for their goals and overcome their challenges.  The challenges are unique and different to each person and you support them to achieve.   Some of the examples of this innovative support are the Couch to 5K Challenge and SPIN’s version of the Biggest Loser.  You have helped people to feel better about themselves and this motivates them in all of their life goals. In addition, your “whatever it takes philosophy” has supported the NCC Room Rental business to grow exponentially.  Your NCC Mangers say that they receive calls back on a regular basis from extremely satisfied customers wishing to book another celebration at the NCC; many of these calls specifically name you and your devoted efforts as a main reason for their return.

We look forward to your smiling face and “can do” attitude.  It not only brightens our day, but it challenges each of us to assess our own spirit and up our game! You accept new challenges and seek new opportunities – the harder the better.  Change has been and always will be a driving force of the transformation and continued success of the Norcom Community Center.  Your flexibility and adaptability clearly supports this critical process.

True transformation takes courage and you have motivated and supported countless people of all ages, all abilities and all backgrounds to accept and implement a healthier lifestyle. It is for this reason and many more that you are so deserving of June’s Employee of the Month Award. On behalf of SPIN’s Corporate Board, your fellow Norcom Community Center Team, and your countless avid NCC member fans, we value and appreciate your many contributions.  John, no doubt that courage is a virtue and we thank you for supporting a Life of Possibilities for so many while leading us all down the Yellow Brick Road.

With sincere recognition and appreciation,

Judith R. Dotzman
