Sametta Dahn (1)

Sametta Dahn

Nov 26, 2013

Dear Sametta,

During the week of Thanksgiving as well as this historic week of the 50th anniversary of the remebrance of John F Kennedy it only seems appropriate to share his powerful words in recognizing one of SPIN’s own outstanding employees:  JFK said “As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words but to live by them.”

Lucky for SPIN, Sametta Dahn began supporting the critical needs of people in April of 2006 when she walked through our doors and began sharing herself in her every giving action. Sametta, you are committed to enhancing lives and supporting people to achieve their outcomes with a solid people first approach. The three women who live at 1020 Lansing have benefitted greatly from your passionate dedication. Shawn, Mary and Alice rely on you for your tremendous skill, competency and overall caring efforts.  Each of these women is uniquely different and requires individualized levels of support.  However, Sametta you are able to accomplish this while supporting all three women at the same time. You make each of the women feel important and you plan and implement creative strategies to involve them in their community.

This year has been full of changing needs for each of the women; they are experiencing significant health problems.  These changes are so scary for the women but they know that they can trust and depend upon you to support their needs and make them feel more comfortable. Based upon this strong relationship, the women feel safe, confident and happy. You make it look easy although we know it is extremely challenging to support the individualized needs of each of the women. Your commitment and expertise has supported Shawn to enhance her health through attending her important medical appointments, Mary to feel less frightened out in the community and Alice to recover from significant health issues causing hospitalizations.

You are a true team player and share your skills and talents with your Lansing colleagues. This is a wonderful example to all. Sametta, new employees are especially in awe of your calm, caring, competent approach. That is why you are requested to onboard new team members and you have excellent outcomes.

Sametta, for over seven years you have been making a difference in the lives of people at SPIN. As a high performing Direct Support Professional, you understand the unique and critical needs of the people we support and you clearly live by SPIN’s mission.

Sametta, on behalf of the SPIN Corporate Board, SPIN Management Team, your colleagues and most importantly Shawn, Mary and Alice, we recognize your outstanding work and humbly thank you for living by your words and showing us all the way!

With deep appreciation and recognition,

Judith Dotzman
Executive Director
