On January 29th, we received promising news from Governor Corbett as he announced his budget will include $22.4M in additional funds to support 1100 people to come off the waiting list for ID services in FY 15. He began his announcement by stating that services for people with intellectual disabilities are an integral part of the Philadelphia and Pennsylvania and that it is the Commonwealth’s responsibility to help those who need our support the most.
The event, hosted at the Salvation Army’s Kroc Center in Philadelphia, offered the opportunity for the Governor to hear firsthand about the struggle of people who are waiting for services. It was also a chance for him to learn about how services lead to success stories.
SPIN was highlighted at the event as we were once again proud to have our choir sing for the Governor and all those who came to hear his important message. The SPIN Choir performed their beautiful original song, “Thank You!” which speaks of gratitude to those who support them and others to have a life of possibilities. The choice of song could not have been more perfect or more beautifully sung!
The Governor shared his strong commitment and understanding of the importance of people living meaningful lives in their community and he stressed the importance of sharing this message and need for funding with our legislators.
After his presentation the Governor took the time to personally thank the SPIN Choir members and let them know how much he appreciated their message and talent.
