DSP Week Message 2013

Dear SPIN Direct Support Professional,

Today marks the start of National Direct Support Professional Week, so acclaimed by a Senate Resolution every year since 2009! At SPIN we know that the tremendously important role of Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) is the cornerstone of our quality people first services.

First, I thank and commend you for choosing to be a DSP at SPIN. Being a SPIN DSP requires commitment to SPIN’s mission and Pillars and demands a lot of hard work. I believe that most of SPIN’s Direct support Professionals come here and thrive here because of our high performance expectations. SPIN DSPs are passionate and dedicated to the well-being of others.

The role of DSPs is evolving and becoming more complex all the time. As a DSP you are asked to fully understand all aspects of the Individual Support Plans (ISPs) for those you support and to implement and document all work and progress toward outcomes. You have to perform your job in accord with all training and SPIN’s values and ethics. We ask you to assure people’s health and safety at all times while supporting each person to achieve and enjoy a full life of possibilities.  At SPIN we have so many shining examples of excellence in the performance of our DSPs who are achieving at this high level of professionalism.

The fifth consecutive year of National Direct Support Professional Recognition Week, provides me with the backdrop of just how meaningful and critical your profession is. You do so much for others and I just want you to know that we never forget how important you are to people and to SPIN’s quality.  On behalf of the SPIN Corporate Board and all those who depend on you for support, I thank you from the bottom of my heart for all that you do for others!
