Urgent Announcement
SPIN is very saddened by the incident being covered by the news concerning a young woman with a disability found in the lower level of a home over the weekend.
This woman receives home and community services 40 hours a week from SPIN on weekdays during the day and evening. Her cousin and legal guardian is our employee for the provision of this service. The woman was living in the care and custody of her legal guardian and not in a SPIN home. The incident occurred on the weekend, outside of the scope of SPIN’s authorized services, during a time frame that the guardian was not working for SPIN. We suspended this employee immediately upon hearing the news of the incident.
Our hearts go out to this individual. We want to note that SPIN followed all established protocols by conducting a comprehensive screening before hiring Ms. Bennett, as we do for all personnel. This included a background check, criminal history and although not required by the state, a drug and alcohol screening. She passed all of these checks.
