December 22, 2015

Dear Fellow Employees,

The holiday season is upon us and the calendar tells us another year is ending and a new one beginning.   As always, it is wonderful to experience the spirit of celebrating and giving at this time of year with all of you.  I have seen and heard so many warm and loving acts of giving, sharing and kindness from our SPIN team this season – you are amazing!

SPIN is at the mid-point of our program and fiscal year and it’s time to share some news, both good and bad, happening in our organization.

The economic problems in Harrisburg have hit SPIN hard this year.  There was no way to predict that our state government would not have a state budget in place 6 months into this fiscal year. SPIN has many costs that are not being paid by government which has resulted in a large deficit for us.  We have been forced to borrow money to cover operating costs, but that all has to be paid back before the end of the fiscal year.

The Executive team met on December 3rd to develop a plan of action. Since then, each department and business unit is developing more detailed plans that are beginning to be implemented.  One cost reduction is the delay to next fiscal year of our plan to lease new space to accommodate the growth of our Autism Center for Excellence and Employment and Home & Community Services.

We will communicate other plans and results with you as we proceed.

The good news is that SPIN is a growing, thriving organization with an engaged high performing team of employees and a positive culture – because of all of you! Over 3,500 children, adults and families know they can trust us to provide People-First support leading to a life of possibilities.  This is what we have been dedicated to for 45 years and counting.  As always, I have you to thank for this dedication.

I wish you all a happy, healthy holiday and hope you all have time with your loved ones over the holiday season.
Thank you for all you do to advance SPIN’s mission and to support people to have a life of possibilities!

Warmest Regards,
