Update from Kathleen Brown McHale

2012-02-28T00:00:00

On February 27, 2012, SPIN employees, who have worked for SPIN for five years or more, received a letter regarding voluntary layoffs. There have been many reactions to this letter and it is my intent to clarify for everyone. The first thing we want everyone to understand is that this really is voluntary and the second is that this letter went to every employee who has been with SPIN for five years. We have heard that some people felt they were being singled out and that is just not the case.

Once again, the reason we are taking this action is that we are dealing with a reduction in the revenue we are receiving from government. This revenue reduction is being experienced by all organizations in Pennsylvania providing services to children and adults with disabilities. SPIN leadership feels strongly that offering a voluntary layoff at this time is the best “people first” strategy to lowering our costs. We are also continuing to reduce every cost that is not associated with our employees, for instance we have just decreased the cost of a technology application by considering a re-bid by another vendor.

SPIN employees are our organization’s greatest asset and we continue to need professional employees who deliver customer and performance excellence in their work in order to fulfill our great mission. We thank you for all you do to provide this level of quality service every day. We will also keep you informed of how the organization is doing financially on a regular basis.

Thank you,

Kathy Brown McHale
