Medication Administration Update
2012-11-09T00:00:00
Effective Immediately: To comply with the Department of Public Welfare Medication Administration Certification requirements it is now necessary for all Direct Support Professionals to administer medications at least one time per week. Therefore, at least one time during your scheduled work week you must administer medication and document this administration appropriately on the MAR. If medications are not prescribed during the timeframe you work, it will be necessary for you to complete Practice Exercises* to maintain your certification. This requirement is mandatory and essential for you to maintain your certification to administer medications; a fundamental job function and requirement to work in SPIN’s Residential Department. This new compliance requirement is effective immediately and all staff who work in Residential services will be held accountable to this requirement. Therefore, staff who do not administer medications or complete the Practice Exercises will be unable to maintain their Medication Administration Certification, be unable to work in Residential Services and will receive a job performance supervisory.
This is extremely serious and will need your immediate attention and action.
Any questions, please contact your supervisor or Debbie Geissel in Professional Development.
We thank you in advance for your compliance with this requirement.
