Senior Management Holds a Midyear Productivity Summit on 1/24

increase-productivity1

It may be the start of a new year for all of us, but in terms of our organization, it is the middle of our fiscal year. Based on our financial statements through the end of November, we identified that the revenue that came into SPIN for the first five months of our year is lower than projected. Patti Parisi, our CFO provided a detailed analysis to Senior Managers at the Senior Management meeting on January 8th and the summit was scheduled for January 24th. Patti requested that every senior manager come to the Productivity Summit with their strategies to increase productivity (therefore increasing revenue) in their unit or department.

The summit began promptly at 9:30, with a short kickoff by Kathy Brown McHale and Patti Parisi. Rich Greenfield, COO presented a new tool for tracking productivity in real time using a dashboard that would quickly identify if units and personnel are operating in a red, yellow or green zone. Then each senior manager in scheduled order took the podium to present their action plans.

Creative, thoughtful, integrated and transformative ideas for solving SPIN’s financial challenges prevailed in each senior manager presentation. Some of the ideas presented were:

•using technology to speed processes and reduce administrative time

•healthy lifestyle programs to reduce health insurance premiums

•increasing utilization in all service areas

•increasing the NCC’s full-time participants

•reducing vacancies in Residential

•advocating with legislators and funders for increased rates for ID and Autism Services

•bringing in new revenue via contracts with Charter Schools and other  organizations/companies

•sharing feedback on individual performance in productivity with all staff

•collaborating to increase opportunities for people to donate to SPIN (who do you know?!)

•using “smart home” technology to reduce utilities costs

These are just a fraction of the many excellent ideas presented. All solutions presented are now being implemented to arrive at the best possible outcome for SPIN’s financial health. It is my intention to communicate with all SPIN employees on these matters and others that affect our organization over the next few weeks. Please talk to your senior manager about productivity and how it is being measured and enhanced in your department. I am very hopeful that our solutions will be successful as we prepare for more growth both here and in the Lehigh Valley as of July 1st.

Presently, I ask for our entire organization to work together by each person performing at your highest professional level and being connected to what it means to be productive in your work at all times.

Thank you,
