Social Capital Weekend

2010-04-21T15:08:50

April 10 -11, 2010 Thank you to everyone who participated in the 4th Annual Social Capital Weekend. The weather was wonderful and the turnout exceeded our expectations! A Day of Stewardship: Saturday, we had a total of 140 volunteers who worked very hard to make sure that the park was spit spot when we left. The park trees looked so nice with fresh mulch surrounding them. There wasn’t a speck of trash to be seen after the litter crew was finished. The invasive locust trees were removed with a lot of effort (and a little grumbling!) and much determination. The prolific burdock that was cleared made way for a beautiful view of the river. Jackie Olsen, a park ranger for Fairmount Park, had high expectations for us and at the end of the day she was thrilled with our accomplishments. A Stroll in the Park: Sunday was the icing on the cake! We had over 350 avid strollers who arrived ready to walk and earn their pledge money. Proudly, with the generosity of so many people, we were able to raise nearly $9,000 and still counting, in support of the agency. Congratulations to Jordan Toronowski who was the high pledge winner with a total of $1,844 in contributions. There were so many people involved with a variety of aspects of the two day event, but I wanted to make special mention of the Social Capital team, the Stewardship volunteers, the Strollers and all of the SPIN’s supporters who enthusiastically participated in this effort. Hooray for everyone! Bernice McHale, Director of Community Affairs
