SPIN’s 1st Annual Softball Tournament

Over 400 people came out to run the bases in support of SPIN’s 1st Annual Softball Tournament and Family Fun Day to raise awareness and funds for adults with intellectual disabilities on Sunday, September 18, 2011. The tournament took place at Rambler’s field in Bensalem, PA and featured an inclusive softball skills clinic conducted by players from Philadelphia University’s baseball team and 16 teams fighting to be named the first champions of the annual tournament! In the end, SPIN raised $10,000 to go towards the improvements of the homes of the adults who live in SPIN’s Community Living Arrangements.

“I think it’s amazing what can be accomplished when a group of people come together and focus on one goal. Everyone seemed to have a great time and it’s something that I will cherish forever,” said Lou Citro who works in SPIN’s Human Resource department and a part of the winning team.

 

The tournament was kicked off by the Navy Color Guard and SPIN Choir singing the National Anthem on a picturesque Sunday morning. SPIN’s CEO, Kathy Brown-McHale threw out the first pitch with Donna Hyde, Corporate Officer of Human Resources catching. 

Community members from across the Delaware Valley participated in way of cultivating their softball skills in the inclusive skills clinic, family fun day which featured games and prizes for young children and the softball tournament. The Wawa City Sluggers, which consisted of Lou Citro Jr., Lou Citro Sr., Jordan Cohen, Adam Cohen, Jon Coyle, Mike Bolton, Mark Olson, Jaime Cairone, Megan Albrecht, Jackie Herbert, and Jen Logston, won the honor of SPIN’s 1st Annual Softball Tournament Champions.
