Speed Mentoring Night at SPIN
On Thursday October 2nd, SPIN’s Human Resources Team led and hosted our first ever Speed Mentoring event and it took all participants by storm! If, like me, you never heard of Speed Mentoring until now, it’s literally an opportunity for an employee to talk 1 to 1 with a leader for five minutes and then move on to talk to another leader with the focus of the conversation on each employee’s career goals. Forty-eight SPIN employees took personal responsibility for their own growth by preparing for and coming out to the event.
You could feel the enthusiasm from everyone in the room as Lauren Veitz welcomed and introduced us to the event. Next Kathy Brown McHale and Ramcess Jean-Louis addressed the eager group and praised their initiative and investment in their futures.
Each participant had prepared their own pitch, story or questions for the nine Corporate Officers who served as the mentors for the evening. The interactions were as unique and diverse as the people presenting them. Everything from guidance on educational programs, to development of personal competencies to what future opportunities might be available was on the table. Participants also asked for insights from Corporate Officers own experiences and personal/professional stories. It was clearly an assembly of SPIN’s employees who personify SPIN’s Pillars!
While the mentoring was occurring, group discussions were also led by SPIN’s Division Directors and a team of Directors that was described as absolutely riveting. In wrapping up the evening with inspirational closing remarks by Judy Dotzman and the awarding of the five door prizes, which was a book titled, Strength Finders 2.0, the positive energy continued as we shared our goodbyes. The tone of the evening and the entire event was described as absolutely “electric”. This was the start of a new level of momentum in the development of the people we need for today and for our future at SPIN!
