Spring Message

Dear SPIN Team Member,

Happy spring everyone! As I write this message, the sounds of the children squealing in delight is the music in my ears from the SPIN Drummond playground below me. I hope you are all enjoying the beautiful weather we’ve been having even half as much as the kids are!

As always, there is a lot of news to share. Here are some highlights.

«  Our new Parkwood PreK School opened on Monday,March 14!

«  Philly.com named SPIN a Top Workplace for the seventh consecutive year with a ranking of #12! We were the #1 nonprofit!

«  20 SPIN DSPs attended the Alliance’s Direct Service Professional Conference on April 15th and saw as their colleague Gee Culmer received the Team Spirit Award!

«  Five individuals at SPIN Lehigh received Celebration Awards from The Arc of Lehigh and Northampton counties!

«  We raised $61,000 at our annual Partners for Possibilities celebration on April 7th to go toward planned Norcom Community Center renovations!

«  We are celebrating April’s Autism Acceptance month with gratitude for our excellent clinical and educational staff who provide service to children and adults with autism!

«  A new home opened at the end of March for two adults and we purchased another new home for 3 adults to open soon!

«  SPIN’s Employment Services is providing new services to high school students to support them to learn critical skills for gaining employment upon graduation!

There is so much to be very proud of throughout our organization and I hope you are proud of the work you are doing in support of SPIN’s critical mission every day.

My January message concerned SPIN’s very challenging financial situation, so I want to update you on where we are at this time.

  • With the opening of SPIN’s Parkwood PreK, we brought one person back from layoff status and were able to move people to the positions they were hired for.

  • While we continue to experience a deficit; we had good March numbers. Our total deficit through the end of March is now under $500,000.

  • We are actively advocating with the state and other funders for better rates to support our workforce and the sustainability of our services.

I am very hopeful that in the remaining three months of this fiscal year, we will continue to have positive numbers and end the year with a small surplus as is required of our bank.

Please email any thoughts or questions you have concerning SPIN’s accomplishments and our overall organization to spin@spininc.org.

Thank you for all you do to support A Life of Possibilities!

Take care,
Kathy
