Update on Status of Voluntary Layoff – March 14, 2012

2012-03-14T00:00:00

Last week I informed everyone that we had received six requests for voluntary layoff from employees in management all of which we approved and 13 requests from employees in the union. As of today, we have received no additional requests from management and four additional requests from employees in the union for a voluntary layoff.

Today we are approving six of the 17 total requests from union employees for a voluntary permanent layoff; four will be effective March 16th and the other two on March 30th.  All six management employees will be effective March 16th

We applied a careful analysis of job roles and how we could reassign accountabilities as well as of course a financial analysis of the 17 requests.  The six layoffs that we are approving will all benefit SPIN financially. The 11 that we are not approving each would have cost us more money than we would have saved.

We estimate saving $285,000 beginning next fiscal year from the resulting layoff of six management and six union positions.  This is a big help to our funding deficit.

I thank all twelve employees who are leaving us for their service to SPIN and their dedication to those we support.  We will miss them and wish them the best of luck in the future.

Thanks also to every employee who continues their dedicated service to SPIN; we have much to do to support people to have a life of possibilities and I know together we can!
