Dear Fellow SPIN Employee,
With the weather forecast calling for snow to begin again in the evening on Monday 1/26/15, we are planning ahead to assure everyone’s safety. SPIN intends to do its best to communicate as clearly as possible and keep everyone safe. Please stay connected to the latest information we provide via email, on SPIN’s Portal or via Facebook.
The following preparations and plans are in effect for 1/26/15:
Residential (Philadelphia and Lehigh): Residential staff are essential personnel and we are asking all Residential staff to plan ahead to arrive to work on time and safely. All Residential homes are being checked for food, emergency supplies and snow shovels, ice melt, emergency lighting and other essentials. Any staff in a Philadelphia area home still needing ice melt are asked to come into the Real Property area at Drummond Road to get supplies or to request Residential managers for assistance by no later than 4pm. Medication needs are being addressed by Health Services. In event of utility outages or other emergency conditions, homes may be relocated either to Norcom or to a hotel. Managers will remain in close contact with all homes to support in event of emergencies or other support needs.
Children’s Services: With the Philadelphia School District closing school at 12 noon on 1/26, SPIN’s Pre-K, Head Start and Early Intervention center-based classes will also close at 12 noon. Child care will close today at 4pm.
B&D Autism Afterschool Program: Closed 1/26/2015
Other Center-based Services: Norcom, B&D Outpatient Services: We will close services as of 4pm on 1/26.
For all non-Residential CBU staff working in the community (Home-based, BHRS, Blended Case Management, Home & Community and Employment Services Staff), the following is in effect: Stay tuned to email and portal updates in regard to whether we will end services in community settings early. This will depend on the timing and amount of the snow.
DRIVING YOUR OWN VEHICLE FOR SPIN Work: Once a decision is made to pull SPIN vehicles off the road, the decision to drive your personal vehicle for SPIN purposes will be made by your immediate supervisor based on the clinical or programmatic need of the individual in service. YOUR SUPERVISOR WILL NOTIFY YOU if you should drive.
Office Staff: SPIN buildings will close on 1/26/15 at 4pm.
DRIVING SPIN Vehicles: It is expected that as of approximately 4pm on 1/26/15, we will no longer permit SPIN vehicles to be driven unless given permission by the Assisting Director due to an emergency or programmatic requirement of an individual living in the home.
Anticipated for Tuesday 1/27/15
Children’s Services: All Pre-K, Head Start and EI center-based programs will follow Philadelphia School District’s announcements for closures or late openings. For Child Care, SPIN will make a decision either late on 1/26 or early on 1/27.
B&D BHRS & BeST Services: Those with school-based authorizations will follow the schedule of the school/site/location where they are assigned regarding closures or late openings.
All other Services: SPIN will make decisions based on the weather conditions either late on 1/26 or early on 1/27.
For All CBU Employees
You will be expected to use leave time to make up any hours you are unable to work due to a program or service ending early. If you are qualified, you can request to work in Residential and may be assigned if you are needed. If you don’t have leave time, you will be paid only for hours worked and you will not be penalized for taking leave without pay. Please communicate directly with your immediate supervisor regarding any leave time concerns/issues.
Please note: In accord with the Agreement between SPIN and its Union, Article 19.4
In the event a government authority declares a “state of emergency”, where a program is located, requiring that only essential personnel report to work, employees in the affected programs (excluding residential employees), will not be expected to report to work and will be paid for that day at straight time exclusive of leave time. However, qualified employees in programs that are closed may be required to work if deemed necessary. All employees who are required to work (including residential employees) during the emergency will be compensated at 1 ½ times their regular rate of pay. This is limited to two days per contract year.
Please be very careful out there everyone!
Thanks,
Kathy
