Dear Benson Team,
The gentlemen who live at the Benson CLA are each unique
individuals and each has had their share of unique challenges.
Individually and as a team you work hard to ensure that Tom, Joe,
and Sean are supported to live life to the fullest and to overcome
the obstacles that they encounter.
When Tom was battling cancer, you came up with ideas to help him
through his treatments while continuing to live life as he desired.
Tom never refused to go to his treatments which were five days a
week because you encouraged and supported him and helped him
understand how important this was. He now has a special bond with
all of you and is loving life, especially dancing at
parties.
Joe moved to Benson last December and had some difficulty
adjusting to staff and group home living. His mom worried about his
care and happiness. Now he knows and trusts all of you and cares
about your well being, even calling you when you are ill. He looks
forward to each of you coming to work.
Sean has struggled with his weight for nearly a lifetime. Of
course, this puts his overall health at risk so you devised a plan
of exercise with Sean to help him. You support him to take AM and
PM walks; swim twice a week; ride his exercise bike at home; and
walk the treadmill at NCC. Sean is healthier and happier than
ever.
This team also includes two wonderful nurses Tanya and Kristen,
who support Tom, Joe, and Sean and their staff. Their concern for
the gentleman's well-being and their willingness to work so closely
with the team results in solid healthy lifestyle outcomes.
As your supervisor Rena Wilson, said in her nomination letter,
"The Benson team comes to work with a purpose and they appreciate
one another." There is self-determination in every action and the
challenging behaviors we encountered in the past have remained just
that, in the past.
It is a pleasure to honor you as Team of the Quarter and thank you
on behalf of the Board of Directors, your fellow employees, and
Tom, Joe, and Sean for working to accomplish positive and
productive futures for the men you support.
