Shelbourne 1

Dear Wilma McBorrough, Joanne Schmidt, Paul Nicholson, Sheila Bruchbocker, Samantha Moses, and Carroll Comer,
After years of providing wonderful people-first services for Dwayne, Michael and Wesley, why now did this team achieve the coveted SPIN Team of the Quarter? Three little but important words: You never quit! No matter what you are confronted with, you always come together to find a way to do your best for each and every one of the men who you put at the center of everything. Your dedication and perseverance is seen in the story of the breakthrough that together you just created in Michael’s life.
Your Assisting Director, Tandy, was here only a short while when you began engaging her in ideas for getting Michael out of a deepening depression. Michael had resorted to refusing to leave the house for haircuts, doctor’s appointments and even preferred recreational outings. As Michael’s depression deepened so did this team’s resolve. In Tandy’s nomination letter she said that not a day would go by without a new idea coming from a member of this team about what could help Michael. Finally, a breakthrough! Due to your people-first persistence, Michael not only got a haircut, he also went to the mall and out for lunch the same day. Michael was proud of his new look and showed it off. You all rejoiced and continued your focus to help him.
While working to support Michael through this, you never lost focus on what Dwayne and Wesley each needed. In October, Joanne came up with an idea to take Wesley to see, The Duprees, who were playing in Ocean City. For those of you not of my and Wesley’s generation, The Duprees are a 60’s doo-wop band. Joanne planned a two-day get away in Ocean City for Wesley, who had not been on one in years. I heard it was a blast. Wesley also gets the team‘s full attention whenever he has to go into the hospital to treat his ongoing health needs. This team visits him and makes sure they stay in contact during these times.
Dwayne benefits from all the activities this team plans. Knowing money is tight, you research fun community activities that Dwayne loves. Everything from the Amish market, to the Reading Terminal and much more keeps Dwayne engaged and enjoying his life. You also keep everyday life fun by making even house meetings an occasion for group togetherness. You bring food to the meetings and Michael, Dwayne and Wes are all a part of things at each meeting.
Michael’s recent birthday found all of you as ardent Kiss fans! A Kiss-themed birthday party had to be in store for the band’s most avid birthday guy! A Kiss cake, decorations and all of you in Kiss t-shirts must have been a sight to see. Michael enjoyed his birthday party and he didn’t even need to wear his Kiss t-shirt!
In addition to being positive, respectful, people-first and resourceful, you also all demonstrate the other Pillars of professionalism, performance excellence and productivity. You have aced the transition to the Quick Mar and are said to be doing an excellent job in this new med admin system. You learn and adapt to change and work so well with your new leader, Tandy and also with your Director, Donna.
It is thanks to your positivity, creativity, resourcefulness and Never Quit approach to your support of the men and your excellent teamwork that Wes, Michael, and Dwayne each have a Life of Possibilities. I am so pleased that in Tandy and Donna you also have leadership that recognizes this team’s deep commitment and incredible outcomes. We join with them today in honoring you, the Shelbourne 1 team as the September to December 2016 Team of the Quarter. On behalf of your leaders, the entire SPIN management team, the SPIN Corporate Board and Dwayne, Wes, Michael and their families, it is my honor to congratulate you for receiving the esteemed SPIN Team of the Quarter Award.
We admire and deeply appreciate each of you and all that you do!
Warmest Regards,
Kathleen Brown McHale
