  1. All SPIN vehicles will be shut down at 6PM on Saturday, 8/27 unless it is an emergency; assessments will be made on Sunday and decisions will be made at that time for vehicle usage. There are a few exceptions (i.e. Individuals who work)
  2. Due to the impending hurricane, State of Emergency and mandatory evacuations have been declared throughout the region. In Pennsylvania, Gov. Tom Corbett has declared a state of emergency. And in Philadelphia In a press conference at 6 p.m. this evening, Philadelphia mayor Michael Nutter declared a state of emergency for the City of Philadelphia as Hurricane Irene approaches the area. "This could be the worst storm event to hit the Philadelphia area in 50 years," Nutter said. Nutter also added that local residents should expect lengthy power outages after the storm. "Due to the severity of this storm," Nutter said, "people should expect power outages of a week, 10 days or even two weeks." Nutter said he signed the declaration at 5:30 p.m, following similar declarations in New York City, Baltimore and Washington.

An initial reaction to the impending storm is that gasoline stations have been inundated with demand. The local Sunoco station is already out of regular and will be out of ultra very shortly. Gasoline deliveries that were scheduled for this afternoon have been postponed so evacuation locations can attempt to keep pace with demand.

SPIN residential managers should strongly advise staff to immediately limit travel and try to preserve gasoline until the current situation is remedied.
